Comprehensive Vision Evaluation
When a child or adult shows signs of difficulties in performance, the initial step should involve a comprehensive evaluation of eye health and vision. This evaluation includes a thorough assessment of binocular vision, sensorimotor abilities, and visual processing skills. The assessment gauges eye coordination and visual processing skills relevant to reading fluency, letter reversals, math, handwriting, attention/concentration, work-related tasks, and sports. Our doctors will identify visual diagnoses affecting educational or work performance, prescribe appropriate lenses as needed, and for children, furnish a written report with classroom recommendations and a plan for therapeutic interventions to address visual challenges for future success.
COMPREHENSIVE VISION EVALUATION INCLUDES
Sensorimotor Testing
- Binocular Vergence (Eye Teaming) Testing – Measurement of convergence, fusion ranges, and coordination of both eyes working together.
- Oculomotor (Eye Tracking) Testing – Measurement of pursuits and saccades (micro eye movements in reading).
- Accommodation (Eye Focusing) Testing – Measurement of eye focusing related to the clarity of near vision and near visual attention, transitioning from near to far.
Visual Processing Testing
- Visual Discrimination – The ability to discern similarities and differences visually.
- Visual Memory – The ability to visually remember the characteristics of a shape/object after a brief presentation.
- Visual-Spatial Relationships – The ability to distinguish between forms based on orientation.
- Visual Sequential Memory – The ability to immediately recall a series of forms in the specific order of presentation.
- Visual Figure-Ground – The ability to perceive a form visually and identify it within a background of other shapes.
- Visual Directionality – The ability to recognize language symbols based on their directional orientation.
Visual Integration Testing
- Visual-Motor Integration – The ability to analyze visual information and reproduce it using eyes and hands together, supporting fine motor skills and handwriting.
- Visually Directed Gross Motor Function – The ability to coordinate and move both halves of the body effectively.
- Visual-Vestibular Integration – The ability to combine the visual and vestibular systems for proper orientation and balance.
Baseline Reading Testing
Standardized testing for word recognition and fluency.
Additionally, we conduct a comprehensive eye health and vision assessment to evaluate the well-being of the eyes, visual acuity (eyesight), and refractive conditions, providing appropriate corrective lenses when necessary.
